Curriculum Intent

Foreign Languages (French)

At Broadmead Lower School we want to give the children the opportunity to have a wide range of experiences. We want them to progress and achieve within an alternative language to English. At Broadmead Lower School we have chosen French to be the taught language.

Children will have the opportunity to read, speak and write in French throughout their lessons. They will learn the basic skills and set the foundations for developing their knowledge of this language throughout their education. The children will be encouraged to express their feelings, factual information and basic knowledge within the French language.

Our French curriculum will aim to give children the basic skills to speak, read and write in French. They will engage in simple conversation and respond and ask simple questions. The children will have the opportunity to join in with song and rhymes in French to aid and assist their learning. They will also read short stories and extracts of simple French. Children will also be expected to explore writing short phrases, words and sentences in French to further develop their learning.
